Many people will be familiar with my photography from my web site http://www.britishbutterflies.co.uk, a personal web site dedicated to promoting the importance of butterflies in the British Countryside.
My interest in wildlife started as a kid and often took the form of collecting caterpillars to rear at home... usually resulting in quite a few painful stings as a result of wading through stinging nettles. The pain was worth it when you get the chance to observe first hand, the marvels of a butterfly emerging from its chrysalis.
Having a background in design, recording my observations of wildlife through the lens of a camera was a natural progression and this became more pronounced when digital cameras made it possible to take images without the cost and time needed to process the film and make prints.
Today, all of my images are taken digitally in the wild. I keep any digital manipulation to the bare minimum and in most instances any edits that are undertaken consist of spot removal or subtle crop adjustments in order to improve the framing of the subject. As most wildlife photographers will tell you, luck and patience is the key to getting a great photo but a good knowledge of your subject certainly improves your chances of success.
This web site showcases just a small proportion of the imagery we have available.
If you can't find what you are looking for, please do not hesitate to contact me.
You can view many more of my butterfly photographs which do not make it on to this web site on my British Butterflies web site. There's also an extensive selection of images on my Flickr Gallery.
Best wishes
